This is totally my experience on having a MacBook Air for 3 years. I would say the MacBook Air does best on games that are sold on the App Store. I would say this because the App Store includes a variety of games that work well, are compatible and are made for the Mac. Installing games from 3rd party apps such as steam and origin are also a good source of games although the frame rate might be quite low. NOTE- this does not apply for all games. I tried out Team Fortress 2 and Counterstrike:Go and managed to get around 40fps which in my opinion is acceptable. Having a good mouse helps when gaming on a mac.
Hope this helps! Tbh the only games that popup in my mind that are available on Mac are Team Fortress 2, which i spent about 1200 hours in as it is a great game with much content and possibilitys to learn (you would be surprised), and Bioshock: Infinite, which i havent played myself yet but you could find reviews for this one urself:) What you could do thought is go on Steam and filter after availability for platforms! Edit: Counter strike also works, and so do all other valve games i think (not 100% sure about all others but most should work). I would recommend downloading Steam, there are tons of games for Mac available there.
Some particularly good choices include Endless Legend which just won Rock Paper Shotgun's Game of the Year. (a bit like a fantasy version of Civ V) Bastion and Transistor are also fantastic.
There are many more, depending on the kind of games you like. Best work keyboard. You probably won't be able to play the top end FPS games like Farcry 4 or Call Of Duty. But Counterstrike will work, as will Portal and Left 4 Dead There's lots of indie games as well.
I particularly like The Binding Of Issac Rebirth. Consider looking here:. What you're looking for, in selecting a game to play on your MacBook Air is something that doesn't require any form of discrete GPU. So, when you see a section that says: Requirements: OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion or later; 4GB RAM; Intel HD Graphics 3000/4000; 10GB available HD spaceYou're in pretty good shape. But when you see this: Requirements: OS X 10.7.5 or later, 2.4GHz Intel processor, GeForce 8800GT or Radeon 4870 graphics card with 512MB VRAM Well, that may be a bit more than your MBA can manage In general, for AAA titles, as long as you're willing to reach back a few years, you aren't in too bad of shape. Bonus, those titles are now very affordable.

If, however, you want to play something like Assassin's Creed: Unity or Far Cry 4. None of that is going to shake out well for a Mac Book Air.

I got Fortnite a couple days ago. From what I've played so far, its super fun!! However, I have had some serious issues that aren't just preventing me from enjoying the occasional match, but rather playing the game at all. I have the 2017 Macbook pro on the most recent IOS there is.
I should be able to run the game flawlessly on decent settings from the system requirements that I've seen, however even on the lowest settings I often get around 15 fps. Nothing else is ever running while I play the game, and I am on the lowest settings possible. That's not even the biggest problem though, it's the freezing. Every minute or two, my game will just freeze for 30s-1 min at a time, still executing whatever action I am doing at the moment (so running in same direction etc.) Also, any time I look near the forrest my fps goes right to 3 lol. This makes me useless for about 50% of games and really just puts a damper on my playing experience. Has anyone else experienced anything and know a potential fix? Is the game not properly optimized for mac yet?
